Vladimir Propp Narrative Theory (Tangled)
Vladimir Propp's narrative theory is that he believed that there was seven different characters necessary to make up a narrative.
When the kingdom's most-wanted bandit, Flynn Rider, hides in a convenient tower, he immediately becomes a captive of Rapunzel, the spire's longtime resident. Crowned with 70 feet of magical golden hair, she has been locked away for years and desperately wants freedom. The feisty teenager strikes a deal with Flynn, and together they begin a whirlwind adventure.Using Vladimir Proops theory I can apply this theory into the film tangled. He describes films as all having all seven characters such as Hero, Villain, Dispatcher, Donor, Helper, Heroine and false hero. (Synopsis from google)
In the film tangled, Flynn is seen as the hero because he is the male protagonist restoring equilibrium by rescuing the princess and eventually falling in love. Rapunzel is both the Dispatcher and Heroine because she travels with him as she is seen as the damsel in distress as she wants to be saved but also she sent flynn on a mission in the film by blackmailing him to take her to see the lanterns. She is also the Donor because she realises that the only thing keeping her locked away is her hairs magical powers so decided to cut it off so she would no longer be worth anything to the villain. The villain in the film is her 'fake' mother who kidnapped her at birth and keeping her locked away in a tower. There are two false heroes in the film of the two Stabbington brothers an the mother, because the two bothers are on Flynn's side when stealing the crown at the beginning but betray him later on. The mother is also a false hero because falsely acted as the hero to Rapunzel by making the real hero look like the villain. The helper is Pascel and Maximus because they shifted both Flynn and Rapunzel
