Analysis of five horror trailers

Clockwork Orange (1975) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPRzm8ibDQ8
The trailer doesn't give much away about what happens in the film as its just words of 'witty, funny, musical, thrilling frightening' etc., images and some scenes from the film. It employs disturbing violent images to comment on psychiatry, juvenile delinquency, youth gangs and other social, political and economic subjects in a near future Britain. The characters are seen as a group of youths to be very smug as they're smiling throughout, they're all in white suggests the type of group all being in the same clothing. As they go around killing people also suggests they could be crazy or psycho. The way the trailer is edited is very short clips of images and words to grab the readers attention, the camera angles used are close ups and wide shots to emphasise the intimidating look they're giving the audience. The music throughout builds up the tension making it more dramatic.
April Fools Day (1986) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOnDKucaoVM
A group of college students decide to spend their spring break at the secluded island estate of their
classmate, Muffy St John. Which starts out as a fun weekend turns into something more sinister. Muffy is very fond of practical jokes and sets up various gags throughout her mansion. But when friends begin going missing and turning up dead they realise they're trapped on the isolated isle with a brutal killer. There are different types of characters the girls seem very unaware and not smart about obvious things that happen, the boys act male dominant and protecting but all have a sense of innocence apart from one character who stands out as very mysterious character. The way its edited is showing different scenes of each character noticing something odd and encountering it through the house. The mise en scene around them of the old house being establishing shots and it shows more of the scene around them starting off light but turns darker. The music starts off as light hearted but becomes dramatic and creates tension as the terrible events start to occur.
Fright Night (1985/2011) -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ISgM9sjza8 , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txgGhyjPZGg
The 1985 version is of a teenager Charley Brewster who is a horror film junkie, which is so surprise that when a new neighbour Jerry Dandridge moves next door. Charley becomes convinced he is a vampire and no surprise when nobody believes him. After strange events begin to occur he has no choice but to turn to the only person who would help a washed up television vampire killer Peter Vincent. The characters are just typical normal American teenage students at a high school but when a strange new neighbour moves in certain characters start to become suspicious of him and take action against it to find out. The lighting throughout begins bright and sunny as its before any danger happens but every time the neighbour is shown it becomes very dark and gloomy suggesting what's to come. The camera angles for two characters are high and low angles showing the power between the two.
Rings (2017) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_yuHYNqa0w
An urban legend of a video filled with nightmare images leads to a phone call foretelling the viewers death in exactly seven days. A newspaper reporter Rachel Keller  is doubtful of the story until four teenagers all die mysteriously exactly one week after watching the tape. Rachel tracks down the video and watches it. Now she has just seven days to unravel the mystery. The characters are of a normal couple but when bad things start to happen after watching the tape they become scared as to what might happen to them and as to how they're going to die. The way the film is edited is it shows the thing that's hunting her going from the front of her then to the back that creates the horror feeling and the bad things that happen are edited closely every time they are shown. The mise en scene around shows that she has a normal life and surroundings until she watches the tape and always turns dark whenever she's in danger but has a glimpse of light showing her life before bringing hope. The sharp music used throughout builds up tension but when something happens it comes to a sudden stop creating suspense for the audience as to what's going to happen next.
Silent night deadly night (1984) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSQ9fqci_6E
An orphan raised by nuns grows up to be a killer toy-store Santa Claus. As the trailer is set during Christmas time the main character of Santa seems innocent at first but is actually a dangerous killer. Although it doesn't give much away about the other characters they seem venerable to be easily attacked by the killer wanting to get away but fail. Its edited in a way that goes back and forth of the happy elements of the film and the scary elements showing the contrasting between the two as Santa is normally seen as a happy element to Christmas. The mise en scene is filled with toys and presents showing that everyone is waiting for one particular thing and are excited, but when it arrives, 'it' being Santa it becomes dark showing its not a normal thing to happen but in horror films it presents to the audience the dangerous thing is coming.
