Analysis of five horror trailers

Clockwork Orange (1975) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPRzm8ibDQ8 The trailer doesn't give much away about what happens in the film as its just words of 'witty, funny, musical, thrilling frightening' etc., images and some scenes from the film. It employs disturbing violent images to comment on psychiatry, juvenile delinquency, youth gangs and other social, political and economic subjects in a near future Britain. The characters are seen as a group of youths to be very smug as they're smiling throughout, they're all in white suggests the type of group all being in the same clothing. As they go around killing people also suggests they could be crazy or psycho. The way the trailer is edited is very short clips of images and words to grab the readers attention, the camera angles used are close ups and wide shots to emphasise the intimidating look they're giving the audience. The music throughout builds up the tension making it more dramatic. April Fools Day ...

Filming of a doctor doctor joke

Image
In this experiment we had to use our knowledge of the 180 degree rule and match-on-match action by including a funny doctor doctor joke which we researched and had to include it in a conversation with dialogue before saying the joke. In the first experiment we had with film making we didn't know any techniques of how to film so we just filmed from what we thought to do. But in this experiment after we had learnt the different techniques of the 180 degree rule and match-on-match action techniques. After we had filmed our three different scenes of the conversation we uploaded it onto iMovie and began editing it. I started by editing the match-on-match with the actor opening the door in two scenes, cutting it short of the same action from two point of views but as a continuos shot. As well as including the two angles of the actors talking and making the joke with laughter added at the end.

Key definitions

Before we started filming we learnt some key things before filming our conversations such as; 180 degree rule- Which is a filming technique that once you start filming in a particular space you can only film in that 180 degree space. Match on match action- Is when you start filming one action in one scene then film the same action in a different scene but looks like one continuous shot.

First experiment of filming a conversation

Image
Our group decided to do our film experiment on a conversation between a mother and a daughter at a restaurant, which ends badly as her mother receives some news she doesn't want to hear. After we were finished filming we had to edit the film on imovie to cut down the scenes we didn't need to include. However, while filming we filmed it in one continuous clip but next time I will make sure to film it using different camera angles and shots. As we wanted it to be set in a restaurant I added sound affects including a popping of a champagne cork and pouring into a glass, also  I added people talking and soft jazz music to the background to add to the feel of it being in a restaurant. At the end of the film the mother goes to slap her daughter after hearing the news she wasn't happy with but we wanted the volume to be louder so we added a golf ball being hit to make it more louder.
